Driving Instructor - Carlisle & surrounding areas including Wigton, Brampton & Gretna.
I’m Adrian at LDUK. I have lived in Carlisle for 20 years after moving here from Workington and bringing my own Driving School with me.. Most of my school years however were all spent enjoying the sun in the South (originally from the Bristol area). I have been involved in Driving Instruction since 1994 when I first started in Workington as a motorcycle instructor before moving on to cars. I spent about 10 years as a driving instructor for Stagecoach helping people become bus drivers (please don’t hold that against me) before coming back to car instruction.
I have been married to my wife Elaine for 19 years and have 4 pets that we treat as our children. We have 2 cats, Smudge and Oscar and 2 dogs, Lola and Wilson. As you can imagine we spend a lot of our free time walking and love to hitch up the wobble box (caravan) and get away to the Lakes with Lola and Wilson who love it as much as we do. Between myself and Elaine we have 5 children and 7 grandchildren, so birthdays and Christmas can be very costly, but they are all worth it.
I cover the Carlisle and surrounding areas including Wigton, Brampton and Gretna. I am familiar with all these towns and they all have their own quiet areas for your initial practice where you can feel at ease and under no pressure with very little traffic.
Initially we would start on nursery routes like the Lowry Hill estate in Carlisle where it is reasonably quiet and allows you to concentrate on the first steps of learning and practising how to use the controls, when we both agree that you are ready to move on we could use slightly busier estates such as Morton Park or Harraby so that you can use your new skills in slightly more challenging areas.
Once we are both happy with your progression then we will start to introduce new topics such as roundabouts, using the quieter ones first like the ones on the A595 bypass during quieter times of the day until we can move onto Carrs roundabout and Hardwicke Circus. We will also look at the manoeuvre’s required for the test and work on country routes taking in places like Dalston and some of the smaller villages around including Brough by Sands giving you the experience of narrow winding country lanes allowing you to become familiar with the different types of hazards you may encounter on these roads such as tractors, horse riders and cyclists. It is important to learn these types of driving conditions to ensure that you are familiar with how to handle them not just for your test, but for your continued safety after reaching your goal of attaining your full licence.
During all this I welcome your feedback and questions and we will always discuss and decide together how to progress until we both feel it is the right time for you to take the driving test.
I have enjoyed teaching people to drive for many years and to me the look on your face when you are told you have passed makes my day as well as yours. My wife has always told me if I was any more laid back I would fall asleep so I can assure you that all your lessons will be at your pace and there will never be any pressure put on you to do something you do not wish to do, everything will be discussed and agreed between the two of us before progressing.
So please don’t be afraid to take a step forward in your life, I would love to be the one to see that smile on your face when you get your licence.
By the way, one of our dogs is called Wilson, have you seen the film “Castaway” with Tom Hanks. Remember the basketball he had as a friend? That’s where we got Wilson’s name from.
I’d like to thank you for reading my profile and hopefully my picture hasn’t scared you too much, I look forward to meeting you soon.
Happy driving guy’s.
