Driving Instructor - Harrogate & Knaresborough
I’m Matt at LDUK. I have lived in Harrogate since I was five years old. I moved here with my two younger brothers from West Yorkshire when my parents became landlords of a pub just down the hill from Betty’s café. I went to Western primary school and then went onto study at Harrogate Grammar.
I have been with my partner, Dee, for nearly twenty years. We have two beautiful children, Gracie and George who keep Dee and I very busy when we are not at work. They are both amazing and we love being parents. They are our world. I play snooker for a local team and also enjoy playing golf when time allows. As a family we like going camping (or glamping when the Great British weather is not playing ball).
I cover both Harrogate and Knaresborough. Each town has lots of quiet areas where you can learn and practice your first few hours behind the wheel with very little traffic around. Kent road and surrounding roads on the Duchy estate in Harrogate and the Eastfields estate in Knaresborough are perfect roads to start off with. This brand new or less confident drivers find their feet. Once you’ve mastered the basics and feel confident moving out of the ‘nursery roads’ we would move to areas with slightly more road users. Jennyfields and Bilton estates in Harrogate and again the Eastfields in knaresborough are really good areas to build on what you’ve already learnt. This will allow you to get used to controlling the vehicle whilst dealing with some surrounding traffic. Once you and I are happy with how you’re progressing we can start to look at some more advanced roads and routes in the area. Skipton road (A59), Ripon road (A61) and Wetherby road (A59) are all suitable areas in Harrogate. From these roads you may encounter large multilane roundabouts such as the Prince of Wales and Empress. We would have already practiced roundabouts in a quieter location so you will have a great understanding of how they work and how to safely get on and off. In knaresborough we will use areas such as boroughbridge road (A6055) and the High street which leads to York Road (A59). This is where you will encounter higher volumes of raffic to prepare you for your practical test date and day to day driving conditions. You will be more than capable by this point.
We will spend time in Harrogate and Knaresborough, often going out towards Wetherby (A661), Otley (A6161) and York (A59) to practice country roads and take in a bit of North Yorkshires stunning scenery. It is important to practice roads and routes you may encounter on your driving test. This will help you being caught out by some tricky areas. You will also find driving at different times of the day helpful as the volumes of traffic are changeable.
I find driving around either town a pleasure. Other road users are generally respectful of learners and you plenty of space, so this helps take a little bit of pressure off you.
Having lived in Harrogate for over thirty years I know the area really well, and so will you with the amount of roads we will cover.
I really enjoy teaching people to drive, it’s both challenging and rewarding. It’s amazing to see you come from having never driven to being able to take and pass your test.
I am extremely patient and can adapt lessons to suit any ability. Your lessons will move on at your pace. This works well for those who might feel anxious or scared of driving and we will practice things until you are doing them independently.
So if you’re looking at learning to drive or have passed your test and need refresher lessons I would like the opportunity to teach you!
Finally, did you know Harrogate hosted the Eurovision song contest in 1982? It was hosted by Jan Leeming and was won by Nicole from Germany.
I am looking forward to meeting you in the near future.
Take care for now.
Great recommendations, I thought that the car was very good to drive and my instructor was extremely encouraging. Extremely reliable company and they made the experience better than i expected and i passed first time
I wanted a driving instructor who was local and had a good first time pass rate. Price of driving lessons was also important to me. Learning to drive was easier than i thought it was going to be. Matt Hardwick's teaching methods were good, everything was explained well and i passed first time. I would highly recommend Matt Hardwick and Learn Driving UK for driving lessons as i passed first time.
I came to Learn Driving UK as I'd heard so many positive things said by friends at school. They all passed first time, each had different Instructors too! I was still very nervous about the prospect of being out there on the road but was made to feel very at ease and I knew I was in safe hands. The teaching methods were spot on and I really appreciated the patience they showed me on more than one occasion. I got through my test first time too. I'm just sad to have to say goodbye to my instructor. They become a friend as you work through the process, which makes it feel more enjoyable. Thank you Learn Driving UK, you were brilliant! Yes, I would recommend Learn Driving UK
Learn Driving UK was recommend to me by a friend who said the quality of teaching was very high. I wanted to be taught at a good level so that i would pass as quickly as possible and i passed first time. Learning to drive with Matt was less intense than i expected it to be. Matts teaching methods were good, relaxing and a lack of stress. I was taught really well and passed first time.
I wanted a local driving instructor who had availability around school times. I wanted lessons that were affordable and good cars that are easy to control. I already had a good sense of the road and learnt how to control a car relatively quickly. Matts teaching methods were helpful and relaxed and i passed my test at the first attempt. I would highly recommend Matt to anyone.
