Barry Woodward

My name is Barry Woodward I have been an ADI for approximately 16 years. I began instructing with BSM for 4 years then had my own school for 9 years. I joined Learn Driving UK nearly 4 years ago, it's good being part of a team again.

I cover the Wakefield and Pontefract areas, Wakefield is quite a busy place with its urban areas and busy city centre, Pontefract on the other hand is a smaller town though, still, can be quite busy, you don't have to travel far to be out in rural and semi rural areas.

I was brought up in Birmingham and moved into this area around 30 years ago so most of the brummie has gone.

I got to know the area quite well by travelling around and visiting various places. In my time as an ADI my knowledge of the area has grown so I feel I have a vast knowledge and experience of both areas.

I teach a diverse range of pupils from various countries. I support them if there's any language difficulties which take time and patience.
One person I remember in particular couldn't speak English but did understand it to a certain extent so we worked together and overcame the language barrier. This person went on to pass his test and went on to fulfil a driving career. I also have some experience of working with people with learning disabilities.
